Language Arts Teacher

 

Location: Portland, OR

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 am – 4:30 pm

Reports to: School Principal

Salary: $56,160 to $64,480 annually

Job Summary: 

This position is responsible for classroom instruction, curriculum development, and engagement activities by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties:

  • Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests.

  • Establishes shared expectations with students regarding classroom behaviors, norms, and habits.

  • Plans and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning and engagement experiences.

  • Foster a classroom environment conducive to learning.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Evaluates student academic and social progress.

  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by law.

  • Monitors the progress of individual students using the school database system (Synergy).

  • Works collaboratively across all school sites to develop a unique, engaging, rigorous curriculum.

  • Develops and designs program features that inspire students to develop new understandings about the interconnectedness between subject areas.

  • Designs and adapts curriculum to meet the diverse needs of our student population.

  • Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities.

  • Develops auxiliary curriculum by working collaboratively with other teachers across all school campuses.

  • Confers with parents, guardians, caring adults, and school community stakeholders regarding student progress and aid in planning specific interventions.

  • Performs the role of an advisor to a group of 15 students and helps to support individual student’s social and emotional growth and organizational skills.

  • Maintains punctual, regular, and predictable attendance.

  • Works collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation.

  • Respectfully takes direction from manager.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related subject.

  • Master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience working with high school youth in a school or community-based organization setting.

Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations

  • Oregon Teacher License is strongly preferred.

  • Non-certified teachers may be considered with relevant and/or exceptional experience.
